The Team

Cundall’s Air Quality team aims to create better environments, whether that is by improving occupant exposure or ensuring our solutions have positive effects on the external and internal environments. The team has experience in all aspects of air quality covering the whole project lifecycle of a building, from pre-planning and detailed design to post-planning.

 

Our integrated air quality services allow us to establish current and future ambient (outdoor) air quality impacts and exposure, specify and evaluate appropriate mitigation controls, and measure and manage indoor air quality to meet health and wellbeing requirements.

The Role

Due to the continuing success of the team, Cundall have a vacancy for a Graduate/ Assistant Consultant to join the specialist Air Quality team in Birmingham to provide air quality consultancy services on some of the most exciting construction projects in the UK and worldwide.

 

Under the guidance of our team of experts, this wide-ranging role will offer you the opportunity to develop your expertise in data analysis, air quality modelling, site-based monitoring and design specifications. As your understanding and technical skills develop, you will liaise directly with colleagues, clients and environmental regulators to acquire, collate and analyse relevant data and produce high-quality reports, including air quality chapters of Environmental Statements.

 

You will have the opportunity over time to assume greater levels of responsibility and autonomy as your professional skills develop, and with accredited professional development programmes from the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM), we will support you towards Chartership (CEnv or CSci).

The Skills

Accredited with a BSc and/or MSc degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (e.g. environmental science, physics, chemistry, geography), you have a keen interest in developing expertise and a rewarding career in this discipline.  

 

Attributes you’ll need to succeed in the role:

  • Knowledge of UK air quality legislation, policy and guidance (LAQM.TG22, IAQM Guidance, etc.)
  • Strong technical capability and ability to review and interpret data
  • Given the collaborative and client-focused nature of this role, excellent communication skills, both orally and written
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Understanding of air quality monitoring methods.
  • Knowledge/experience of the methodology associated with undertaking air quality assessments
  • Possess a strong appreciation of the commercial factors which affect design solutions
  • Effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong desire to use your initiative to overcome challenges

 

 The following are desirable attributes but not essential:

  • Prior experience of work in air quality consultancy
  • Working knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
  • Ambient monitoring experience
  • Knowledge/experience of indoor air quality – indoor air quality plans/monitoring for sustainable building accreditation schemes
  • Awareness/experience of odour assessments
  • IES/ IAQM memberships
  • Experience in atmospheric dispersion modelling such as ADMS
