The Team

Cundall’s Doha Office pride ourselves on our exemplary track record of designing innovative, sustainable and energy efficient solutions on some of Qatar’s largest and most challenging construction projects. To support our expanding operations in the Middle East, we wish to appoint a talented, highly motivated Lead Architect with a design background to join our dynamic team.

The Role

This role includes leading architectural projects for large-scale, international work across the region. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in managing large complex projects and client coordination, with proven experience delivering projects in the Gulf region.

Given the collaborative nature of this role, excellent written and oral communication skills are essential and crucially – you will share Cundall’s passion for creative, sustainable and intuitive design.  You will work closely with the Architectural Team Leader, the Architectural Department, the Engineering teams, and clients across the region to deliver award-winning, sustainable, and innovative design solutions.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural design of complex, high-profile projects from concept through to completion.
  • Act as the main authority on projects, overseeing creative, technical quality, and design integrity.
  • Collaborate closely with the various engineering departments (eg MEP, structural, sustainability) to deliver fully integrated design solutions.
  • Oversee junior team members at all levels, fostering a supportive and high-performance culture.
  • Contribute and be able to put together effective resource planning for projects
  • Represent Cundall in client meetings, design reviews, and presentations; build strong relationships with clients, consultants, and stakeholders.
  • Prepare technical reports in accordance with clients’ briefs.
  • Undertake site visits to monitor the progress of works against Cundall’s specification, and highlight issues to the contractor, client and/or (internal or external) project manager as necessary.
  • Supervise junior architects, BIM technicians, and design team members to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Lead the production of design documentation and specifications, ensuring quality and compliance with local and international standards.
  • Help define and improve design workflows, BIM standards, and quality control processes.
  • Support the office managers with business development efforts by contributing to bids, proposals, and client presentations.
  • Report regularly to relevant Associate(s) on the performance of projects against agreed project plans and budgets.
  • Comply with project management, Operational (QA), Environmental and Health and Safety procedures.

The Skills

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture (RIBA or equivalent chartered status preferred).
• Minimum 15 years of experience, with a strong portfolio of built work in the Middle East (Qatar, KSA, UAE).
• Proven experience leading design on large-scale, mixed-use, hospitality, commercial, or high-end residential projects.
• Highly organized, proactive, and responsible, with strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
• Strong teamwork skills, with a track record of managing multi-disciplinary design teams.
• Excellent communication, client engagement, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Deep knowledge of local authority requirements, QCS, NFPA, QCDD, and international best practice.
• Fluency in design tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp; strong visual and presentation skills.
• Passion for sustainable, human-centred design aligned with Cundall’s commitment to net zero and design excellence.
• MMUP grade A is preferable for this role
