The Team

Cundall’s reputation in the Data Centre sector has been underpinned by almost 20 years’ of design experience delivering some of the most technically demanding and pioneering mission-critical projects for our global DC customers. 

Established in 2006, our critical systems team has been at the forefront of data centre design and exceptional in-house engineering services. Collaborating with clients worldwide, we have delivered over 1,000MW of data centre capacity.  

Cundall established our Frankfurt office in 2024 to manage secured hyperscale projects in Germany. In 2025, we plan to recruit a Director to help grow and lead this consulting engineering practice.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, client-focused electrical or mechanical building services leader to establish our critical systems team in Frankfurt. You’ll play a pivotal role in expanding our data centre-focused engineering business in Germany.  

The Director will be responsible for the German office’s day-to-day operational leadership and management. Initially, the focus will be developing a mechanical and electrical data centre team, eventually evolving into a fully multi-disciplinary consulting team. The Director will receive support from our critical systems team across Europe and operate as an integrated leader within our data centre focused sector group. 

You will nurture our existing strong client relationships to deliver our secured workload in Germany. Drawing on your extensive expertise and determination, you will establish, grow, manage, motivate, and lead our team in Frankfurt. 

Whilst DC experience is welcomed,  candidates with the drive, enthusiasm, commitment and experience for success should also apply. Our European Critical Systems team will provide the necessary technical support and skills to achieve our project’s needs. 

 

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

Sector Leadership and Management:

  • Participate in European data centre sector leadership and managerial activities.  
  • Contribute to progression of data centre sector through experience, knowledge and thought leadership.  

 

Business development and client management:  

  • Engage in business development and client management, leveraging the existing customer base.  
  • Participate in marketing and business development activities, attending meetings and events.  
  • Manage relationships with clients, maintaining regular contact and records.  

 

Proposal and project management:  

  • Review request for proposals (RFPs) for opportunities and risks, including commercial assessments.  
  • Contribute to fee proposals and calculations, supported by a designated Partner.  
  • Monitor and manage project resourcing requirements.  
  • Oversee financial aspects of projects, ensuring timely invoicing.  
  • Follow project management and quality assurance procedures, ensuring compliance by direct reports.  
  • Maintain technical standards and expertise to achieve ‘technical excellence’.

 

Team leadership and recruitment:  

  • Lead or participate in team meetings to communicate key deliverables, deadlines, and progress.  
  • Lead local recruitment activities.  

 

Performance management and development:  

  • Conduct performance appraisals, setting objectives, and identifying development needs.  
  • Monitor and support direct reports’ progress and development needs.

  

Statutory duties:

  • Working together with, and under the guidance of the external professional advisors of the business.
  • Ensure all statutory filings with the commercial register are made and comply with the statutory requirement to maintain accounts. 
  • Uphold the principles of capital maintenance. 
  • Prepare for and convene the annual shareholders’ meeting. 
  • Report to shareholders and respond to requests for information.  
  • Ensure that the company meets its obligations under public law – for example tax and social security laws. 

 

The Skills

  • Educated to degree level in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Building Services Engineering.  
  • Chartered Engineer and full Member of appropriate industry body.  
  • An Ingenieur, with German Council of Engineers  
  • Significant experience in a consulting engineering role within the building services field. 
  • Data centre experience is preferred although not essential. 
  • Demonstrated experience in growing and leading teams managing multi-disciplinary projects. 
  • Excellent communication skills.  
  • A client-focused perspective and experience of using your initiative to overcome challenges that arise.  
  • Ideally fluent in German and English, both written and spoken. 
  • Full driving license.
