The Geotechnical Engineering team are an award-winning source of world leading expertise – and offer a pro-active and collaborative approach to skill development, and professional excellence.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our specialist Geotechnical group, to work on the design of some of the most exciting construction projects in the UK and worldwide.

Working closely with colleagues across our multi-disciplinary practice (in particular, our Civil, Structural and Critical Systems teams), you will provide specialist consultancy input on projects across all sectors including Strategic Land, Education, Healthcare, Critical Systems, Industrial, Residential, Workplace and Retail.

In this wide-ranging role, you will design and oversee site investigations and risk assessments, prepare earthworks specification and designs, geotechnical calculations and analysis, geotechnical design (shallow strips/pads, piled foundations, slope stability, retaining structures), specification and procurement.

The Skills

Holding a degree (a BEng or preferably MEng in Civil Engineering or an appropriate BSc/MSc in Geology) with further post-graduate experience in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology (ideally with an appropriate MSc), you have at least 5 years’ professional experience in a range of geotechnical engineering work including earthworks, retaining structures, shallow and deep foundations, slope stability, ground improvement and rock engineering. Ideally you will be chartered or working towards chartership with a relevant accredited industry body.

You are conversant with the principles of soil and rock mechanics and undertake designs in accordance with Eurocode 7. You will also have familiarity with geotechnical analysis software. You can prepare earthworks specifications in accordance with commonly adopted UK guidance including SFHW.

To succeed in this role, you will also bring your experience of scoping, conducting and interpreting site investigations for a variety of civil and structural engineering schemes. You will provide internal advice throughout design stages on cost effective and appropriate geotechnical solutions. An understanding of geoenvironmental issues, including, contaminated land regulations would be useful but not essential.

Given the collaborative and client focussed nature of this role, excellent communication skills and experience of using your initiative and negotiating skills to overcome challenges are essential.
