The Team

The world’s first engineering consultant to be certified carbon neutral, Cundall’s mission is to provide a pathway to net-zero-carbon for all the buildings we design. Winners of the 2021 CIBSE Innovation Award, Cundall are at the forefront of the industry, priding ourselves on our exemplary track record of design and innovation. Our industry leading sustainability & building physics team is key to our global business and we need engineers who share this passion for sustainability design. Collaborating with organisations like the World and Irish Green Building Council to create a better, healthier, more sustainable built environment, we now need a Principal or Associate level Sustainability expert to drive our efforts forward.

The Role

This role will be to lead our Sustainability & Building Physics services in Ireland, based out of our new office overlooking St Stephen’s Green in central Dublin. Working with our UK and international teams, who have helped define the Net Zero Carbon agenda globally, there will be a strong emphasis on business development and industry leadership, supported by the Dublin management team. You will be required to quickly assimilate the innovative services we have developed so that you can use these to promote our services and wider Cundall capacity in the Irish market.

The wider UK based team will provide interim technical support and training as the Dublin Sustainability team is being established.  We are resourced as a single team with workload shared across offices to provide work security, pool resource and support recruitment.

Working closely with colleagues of various disciplines within the Dublin office, you will design, analyse, report, and document Sustainability & Building Physics projects, as well as interface with clients. You will work across a variety of sectors and will have the opportunity over time to assume greater levels of responsibility and autonomy as we support the development of your professional skills.

You will be responsible for client management and project delivery for our key work streams:

  • Building physics and parametric model services
  • Building performance and operational energy optimisation
  • Certification and compliance
  • Health and wellbeing advice and guidance
  • Net zero and whole life carbon services
  • Sustainability design and ESG services

The Skills

Educated to degree/Masters level (or equivalent) in Engineering or the Built Environment, you will have gained relevant practical experience in a similar role. You will have demonstrable knowledge and experience of sustainability and building physics, particularly in relation to thermal comfort, natural ventilation, compliance modelling and real operational energy assessments. You should ideally also have a good understanding of the Irish construction industry.

A knowledge of the following areas of expertise would be beneficial:

  • dynamic simulation software
  • mechanical design
  • EED, NZEB, Building Regulations
  • Planning issues
  • climate based daylighting analysis
  • operational energy calculation and life cycle carbon costing
  • LEED, BREEAM and WELL Standards.

Given the collaborative and client focussed nature of this role, excellent communication skills, an understanding of financial and resource management, and experience of using your initiative to overcome challenges are essential.
